Bariandite - Sold

Bariandite is a complex aluminum vanadium oxide hydrate, belonging to a class of compounds known as vanadium bronzes (Evans & Hughes, 1990). Cesbron & Vachay (1971) named the species after Pierre Bariand (1933- ), former curator of minerals at the Sorbonne University in Paris.

This is a dull black vein section of bariandite. There is some crystallinity evident on the edge of the piece. This specimen was part of the Charles Trantham (1936-2020) estate and a label from his mineral business, CT Minerals, accompanies this specimen.
