Guanajuatite - Sold


Guanajuatite is bismuth selenide, with the same crystal structure as stibnite and bismuthinite. Antonio del Castillo first described the mineral in 1873, however it was Fernandez (1873) who named the mineral in the local (Guanajuato) newspaper.

Guanajuatite forms cleavages to 4 mm long with pyrite; this piece is a vein section, This specimen was part of the Charles Trantham (1936-2020) estate. A vintage handwritten label accompanies this specimen.
