Natroalunite is a sodium aluminum sulfate (Hillebrand and Penfield, 1902). Typically the mineral is chalky and fine-grained, but not this piece! The bulk of this specimen is coarsely crystalline natroalunite, with a cavity lined with curved rhombohedral crystals to 3 mm. This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited.
