Harmotome - Sold


Harmotome is named for the Greek "harmos" and "tome", which mean joint and cutting, respectively, due to the appearrance of twinning in the mineral (Hauy, 1801). Here harmotome blocky translucent white crystals to 1.6 by 1.6 by 1.2 cm on tan crystalline calcite. The mineral looks much liek porcelain. This is a choice specimen, from the locality for the world's finest. This specimen comes from Ralph Merrill collection, proprietor of Minerals Unlimited. Purchase includes Merrill's catalog card (and label), accessioned in 1953. Also carries a Scott Williams personal collection label.
