Schoepite is a hydrated uranium (uranyl) oxide. Walker (1923) named the mineral in honor of Alfred Schoep (1881-1966), professor of mineralogy at the University of Ghent (Belgium). Sklodowskite is a hydrous magnesium uranium (uranyl) silicate. Schoep (1924) named the species in honor of Madame Marie Curie (1867-1934), pioneering scientist in radioactivity, using her maiden name Sklodowska.
Sklodowskite forms lustrous yellow crystals to 0.2 mm lining cavities. Later, later schoepite pesudomorphs after rutherfordine formed in the same cavities. From the collection of E.R. Laskowski (1949-2020), a mining engineer who retired to Tucson, Arizona.
