Jinshajiangite

Jinshajiangite is a complex sodium barium iron titanium silicate, isostructural with perraultite. Jinshajiangite is a member of the bafertisite group, itself part of the seidozerite supergroup of titanium silicates (Sokolova & Cámara, 2017). Hong & Fu (1982) named the mineral for the Jinsha River (jiang, Mandarin for river) which flows by the type locality. Crystal structure refinement of jinshajiangite from Norra Kärr led to a revision of its chemical formula (Sokolova et al., 2009). Subsequent studies by Cámara et al. (2016), Jin et al. (2018), Sokolova et al. (2020), and Day et al. (2020) all agree on the ideal species chemistry.

Jinshajiangite forms red-brown cleavages to 2.4 mm in matrix with black magnesio-arfvedsonite. From the collection of E.R. Laskowski (1949-2020), a mining engineer who retired to Tucson, Arizona. An A.L. Kidwell collection label also accompanies the specimen.
