Gjerdingenite-Fe is a hydrous potassium iron niobium silicate, and a member of the labuntsovite group (Chukanov et al. 2002). The mineral name recalls Lake Gjerdingen, near the type locality (Raade et al., 2002). Niobium silicates like gjerdingenite-Fe are much rarer than their titanium counterparts (i.e. labuntsovite-Fe).
Gjerdingenite-Fe forms tan laths with lorenzenite in a matrix of quartz, aegirine and feldspar. From the collection of E.R. Laskowski (1949-2020), a mining engineer who retired to Tucson, Arizona.
