Galena on Marcasite

Galena forms complex crystals to 1.0 cm across, each with 26 faces. These crystals combine the cube (6 faces), octahedron (8 faces) and dodecahedron (12 faces). The matrix is a solid crust of marcasite, sufficiently sturdy to support the galena. From the collection of E.R. Laskowski (1949-2020), a mining engineer who retired to Tucson, Arizona. A previous collection label from Donald Cooke accompanies the specimen.
