Callaghanite found 2002

Callaghanite is a copper magnesium carbonate. Beck & Burns (1954) named the species after Dr. Eugene "Pat" Callaghan (1904-1990), Director of the New Mexico Bureau of Mines. Callaghan specialized in magnesite deposits, from which this specimen originates.

Callaghanite forms patches of cobalt blue microcrystals on altered serpentine. From the collection of E.R. Laskowski (1949-2020), a mining engineer who retired to Tucson, Arizona. Laskowski collected this specimen August 8, 2002.
