Metazeunerite is a hydrous copper uranyl arsenate, and a member of the meta-autunite group. When Fersman & Shubnikova (1937) found a dehydrated mineral like zeunerite, they coined the mineral name metazeunerite, using the Greek root meta for change. Weisbach (1872) originally named zeunerite in honor of Gustav Zeuner (1828-1907), director of the Freiberg School of Mines in Germany.
This is a breccia fragment mostly covered in platy green metazeunerite crystals to 2 mm. Rich piece! From the collection of E.R. Laskowski (1949-2020), a mining engineer who retired to Tucson, Arizona.
