Ardennite-(As) is a magnesium manganese aluminum arsenate silicate. Von Lasaulx (1872) named the mineral after the Ardennes Region, wherein the type locality resides. Like kyanite, ardennite-(As) has pronounced directional hardness. With the recognition of its vanadate analog in 2005, the International Mineralogical Association revised the original mineral name from ardennite to ardennite-(As) (Barresi et al., 2007).
Ardennite forms yellow bladed crystals to 2.6 cm; the largest spray is 3.3 cm wide. The matrix is massive white bull quartz with minor hematite and rutile. From the collection of E.R. Laskowski (1949-2020), a mining engineer who retired to Tucson, Arizona.
