Népouite is a nickel silicate, specifically a member of the serpentine group. The mineral forms by alteration of peridotite rocks, and constitutes a major ore of nickel. The mineral name recalls its type locality, elsewhere in New Caledonia.
Népouite forms a green botryoidal crust, here cementing breccia fragments. From the collection of E.R. Laskowski (1949-2020), a mining engineer who retired to Tucson, Arizona.
