- 3.2 × 2.9 × 2.4 cm – Thumbnail specimen (fits into a 2.5 cm cube)
While typically rather close to its ideal chemistry of iron disulfide, some pyrite contains significant nickel. This is a such nickel-bearing pyrite, crystallized as a simple cube 3 mm on edge. The crystal protrudes from massive chalcopyrite matrix. This specimen is a bit too large to a competition thumbnail, however it should be possible to cram the piece into a "Perky" box.
From the collection of E.R. Laskowski (1949-2020), a mining engineer who retired to Tucson, Arizona. Laskowski acquired this specimen from Dan Weinrich in 2007; Laskowski and Weinrich labels accompany the specimen.
