Libethenite is a copper phosphate mineral, found in copper deposits throughout the world. Previously known by other names, Breithaupt (1823) assigned this species its currently accepted name, libethenite, after Libethen, a disused German name for Ľubietová in Slovakia.
This piece comes from a find in the late 1970s at Rokana, which produced the largest known crystals of libethenite. This is a fine example, much better than average, with brilliant crystals to 13 mm.
