Danburite is a calcium boron silicate. The mineral name comes its type locality at Danbury, Connecticut (Shepard, 1839). Perhaps the most prolific producer of danburite is Charcas (Mexico), where the mineral is rock-forming in skarn. This is a more unusual danburite, formed in a boron rich pegmatite.
While rather inexpensive and readily available from Mexico, danburite is rare and highly prized in Burma. This is a fine single crystal. With its bright yellow color and brilliant luster, this natural crystal looks quite like a faceted gem. The crystal is broken off on one side, in all about 80% complete. Glassy and gemmy!
