Known as gummite, the yellow-orange encrustations alterating from uraninite have long challenged mineralogists. Frondel (1956) identified over a dozen different species in gummite specimens. Foord et al. (1997) found schoepite-like minerals in material from the Ruggles mine.
This specimen consists of intergrown cubes of uraninite, to 1.0 cm on edge, with encrustations of various uranium minerals. A nice example, affordable, and from the collection of famous collector David P. Wilber.
