Bayldonite on Quartz - Sold

Bayldonite is a copper lead arsenate mineral, named in honor of John Bayldon (1837-1872), an English physician (Church, 1865). This specimen is a druse of quartz crystals, covered in pale green bayldonite, on which latter minute mimetite crystals have grown.

This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. While originally labeled duftite-beta by Merrill, Raman spectroscopy of the green coating matches bayldonite. Merrill's collection card and label ship with the specimen.
