Epidote-(Pb) aka Hancockite - Sold

Epidote-(Pb), formerly known as hancockite, is a rare member of the epidote group (Armbruster et al. 2006). The original name, hancockite, honored Elwood P. Hancock (1836-1916), of Burlington, New Jersey, prolific collector of Franklin minerals. This specimen is a porous mass of brick red epidote-(Pb). In some cavities the epidote-(Pb) forms striated brick red microcrystals, associated with larger, but still microscopic spherical aggregates of colorless to white datolite. This material is part of the "Parker Shaft" suite.

This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. There are also John Albanese and Kessler collection labels present. Merrill's collection card and label also ship with the specimen.
