Epidote-(Pb), formerly known as hancockite, is a rare member of the epidote group (Armbruster et al. 2006). The original name, hancockite, honored Elwood P. Hancock (1836{1916), of Burlington, New Jersey, prolific collector of Franklin minerals. This specimen is a porous mass of brick red epidote-(Pb). In the minute cavities of the specimen are microscopic prismatic crystals of epidote-(Pb). This material is part of the "Parker Shaft" suite.
This specimen was part of the personal collection of Joseph Urban, mineral collector and dealer of Tucson, Arizona. Urban's label, and a deteriorating label from the Bradley's accompany this specimen.
