Hodgkinsonite - Sold

Hodgkinsonite is a magnesium manganese silicate mineral. Palache & Schaller (1913) named the mineral after Harold H. Hodgkinson (1886-1947), Assistant Underground Superintendent of the Franklin mine, who discovered the mineral. This specimen consists of franklinite ore with minor willemite on which subhedral hodgkinsonite has formed a 1.7 by 1.0 cm aggregate. Great color!

This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. Merrill obtained this specimen from Cliff Frondel, and there is also a Harvard Museum label present. Merrill's collection card and label also ship with the specimen.
