Chalcophanite is a hydrated zinc manganese oxide with rhombohedral symmetry. Moore (1875) described chalcophanite as a new species from Sterling Hill. This is a rich mass of vuggy chalcophanite, showing lustrous crystals to perhaps 1 mm. Dunn (1995) provides further details.
