Aegirine - Sold


Aegirine is a nominally a sodium iron silicate, one of the pyroxene group minerals (Morimoto, 1988). Berzelius (1835) named mineral after Aegir, a god of the Scandanavian seas. This particular example is manganese rich, with a dark brown color, forming crude crystals to 8 mm across in calcite.

This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. He obtained the piece in 1955. Merrill's collection card and label also ship with the specimen.
