Roméite (Oxycalcioroméite) - Sold


Roméite and monimolite are discredited term for this calcium antimony oxide mineral the pyrochlore structure. Originally roméite was named after the early the crystallographer Jean Baptiste Louis Romé de l'Isle (1736-1790). The recent pyrochlore nomenclature (Atencio et al. 2010) dubs this phase oxycalcioroméite. Whichever name chosen, the mineral forms octahedra to 2 mm in calcite in massive hausmannite. This is a choice example of oxycalcioroméite.

This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. He obtained the piece in 1997. Merrill's collection card and label also ship with the specimen.
