Langite - Sold

Langite is a hydrated copper sulfate with monoclinic (pseudo-orthorhombic) symmetry. Maskelyne (1864) named the mineral in honor of Victor von Lang (1838-1921), physicist and crystallographer, formerly at the University of Gratz. Pisani (1864) published the first analysis of langite, and Maskelyne (1865)published a full description. Langite here forms a rich crust of blue microcrystals to perhaps 0.5 mm. This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited, obtained in 1954.
