Ludlamite - Sold

Ludlamite is an iron phosphate mineral originally described from Cornwall (Field, 1885). The name honors Henry Ludlam (1824–1880), English mineral collector, based in London. This is a fine example from a reclaimed cobalt mine; specimens have not come out in decades. Sharp oily green crystals to 5 mm have formed a solid crust, now detached from a former pyrite matrix. There is a single vivianite crystal present, 1.1 cm, as well as minor pyrite on the underside of the specimen. This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. Ralph Merrill obtained this specimen from the infamous Ed McDole in 1957.
