Berzeliite is an arsenate garnet mineral, containing sodium, calcium, magnesium, manganese and arsenic (Kühn, 1840). The mineral name honors Swedish chemist and mineralogist, Jöns Jacob Berzelius (1779-1848), who discovered the elements selenium, silicon, thorium and cerium. Berzeliite forms a yellow-orange vein 3-6 mm thick on the matrix. Quite a rich specimen of this unusual mineral. Classic stuff from the Ralph Merrill collection, proprietor of Minerals Unlimited. Purchase includes Merrill's catalog card (and label), accessioned in 1955.
