Gerstmannite is a rare manganese magnesium zinc silicate mineral named in honor of collector Ewald Gerstmann (Moore and Araki, 1977). Gerstmann's enthusiasm for all things Franklin and Sterling Hill caused many people to become collectors of these exotic deposits. Dunn (1995) indicates the mineral is quite rare. This offering consists of a 2 mm crystal attached to black foam in a plastic box. Very rare!
This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited.
