Fredrikssonite is a magnesium manganese borate mineral originally found at Långban. Dunn et al. (1983) named the mineral in honor of Dr. Kurt A. Fredriksson, meteorite scientist at the Smithsonian Institution. The mineral forms brown bladed crystals to 2.5 mm embedded in calcite.
This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. He obtained the piece in 1954. Merrill's collection card and label also ship with the specimen.
