Linnaeite - Sold

Haidinger (1845) named this mineral in honor Carl von Linneé, also known as Carolus Linnaeus (1707-1778), who developed the system of binomial nomenclature still used in biology. The mineral has the spinel (or alternatively, thiospinel) structure and here forms crude octahedral crystals to 8 mm on edge in tight vugs in massive linnaeite and chalcopyrite. Carries a Krantz label. This mineral is rare in crystals. This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited. Merrill''s collection card and label also ship with the specimen.
