Metahewettite - Sold

Metahewettite is named in honor of D. Foster Hewett, who noted the unusual oxidation phases of vanadium at Minasragra, Peru (Hillebrand et al. 1914). Metahewettite is a calcium vanadium bronze, having a peculiarly rich red color due to vanadium-oxygen bonding. The mineral here forms a flatlying acicular crystals completely covering a 5.2 by 2.8 cm fracture on sandstone. This specimen was part of the personal collection of Ralph Merrill, proprietor of the prolific mail order business Minerals Unlimited.
