Gismondine is a calcium aluminum silicate member of the zeolite group (Coombs et al. 1997). The mineral name honors Cado Giuseppe Gismondi (1762-l824), lecturer in Mineralogy in Rome. This specimen shows white crystals to 2 mm scattered on a volcanic matrix. From the type locality. This specimen was part of the Ralph Merrill collection, proprietor of Minerals Unlimited. Purchase includes Merrill's catalog card (and label), accessioned in 1959. Also present is a Gem Shop label.
