Harmotome - Sold

Harmotome is named for the Greek "harmos" and "tome", which mean joint and cutting, respectively, due to the appearrance of twinning in the mineral (Hauy, 1801). Here harmotome forms cruciform twins to 5 mm across on a gray crystalline calcite matrix. Type locality material; classic and difficult to obtain. This specimen comes from Ralph Merrill collection, proprietor of Minerals Unlimited. Purchase includes Merrill's catalog card (and label), accessioned in 1951. Also carries Schmidt and von Haupt collection labels.
