Blatonite - Sold

Blatonite is a rare uranyl carbonate named after Norbert Blaton, Belgian crystallographer (Vochten & Deliens, 1998). Blatonite forms yellow transparent needles in association with gypsum. On this example, the needles are intimately intergrown with the fibrous gypsum in several areas. The showings of blatonite are mostly haphazard clumps of fibers on this specimen. This specimen comes from Ralph Merrill collection, proprietor of Minerals Unlimited. Purchase includes Merrill's catalog card (and label), accessioned in 2000. Also present is a label from Patrick Haynes (discoverer of the mineral).
