Jonesite

Pabst and Wise (1977) described jonesite as a new mineral species from the Benitoite Gem mine; currently it remains the only known locality. The mineral name honors Francis T. Jones, who discovered the mineral while processing specimens from benitoite mining activities. Jonesite here forms bladed crystals to perhaps 0.5 mm, in radiating spheres to 2 mm. The are 7+ groupings of jonesite on this specimen, making this specimen quite rich for the species. Associated with jonesite are quartz pseudomorphs after serandite, on a matrix of massive blue fibrous crossite. Please note that this specimen has a sawn base.
