Diaspore is a hydrated aluminum oxide, forming in some environments from the alteration of corundum. One edition of Dana reports that diaspore does not occur in "measurable crystals" which refers to the quality of the crystal faces of then known material. An unmeasurable crystal would not reflect light on a crystal face, so the angles between faces would not be measurable with a goniometer. Since that period, an occurrence in Turkey has afforded brilliant gem crystals, like this specimen. This is choice single crystal, with a complete termination. The mineral has a perfect cleavage, so finding complete examples like this specimen is quite difficult.
