Skorpionite on Tarbuttite
- Skorpion mine
- Rosh Pinah
- Namibia
- 5.1 × 5.1 × 2.8 cm – Miniature specimen (fits into a 5 cm cube)
Skorpionite is a hydrous calcium zinc phosphate carbonate. Krause et al. (2008) named skorpionite after its type and currently only known locality. This material seems to have come out early in the development of the Skorpion mine, perhaps from 2004 to 2007.
Skorpionite forms silky needles to 1.5 mm on knobs of altered tarbuttite. Fresh tarbuttite is green, but alters to hydroxylapatite at this locality. Rare! From the collection of E.R. Laskowski (1949-2020), a mining engineer who retired to Tucson, Arizona.
