Uraninite is named after the element uranium, which was named after the planet Uranus. Uraninite is the most common of the primary uranium minerals. This is a compact massive variety of uraninite, especially rich in uraniums series decay elements. Highly radioactive. This specimens comes from a Superfund site.
From the collection of E.R. Laskowski (1949-2020), a mining engineer who retired to Tucson, Arizona. Laskowski collected this specimen in 1980.
