Home > Borate Minerals – April 22 > MS1792 Henmilite

Henmilite is an exotic calcium copper borate. The mineral formed by contact metamorphism when Cu and B enriched fluids reacted with pure marble. Nakai et al. (1986) named the mineral in honor of father and daughter mineralogists, Kitinosuke Henmi and Chiyoko Henmi, both at Okayama University. Henmilite has triclinic symmetry, forming wedge shaped crystals.

This specimen hosts henmilite crystals to 3 mm. This specimen dates back to the great henmilite find of 2004. Mineralogical Research and norinorihina Minerals labels accompany the piece.
