Rhodizite (ex Burminco)

Rhodizite is a complex alkali aluminum beryllium borate. Samples typically contain both potassium and cesium, and these two elements vary in their dominance within a single crystal. The mineral name rhodizite applies to the potassium dominant species (Simmons et al., 2001). The mineral name comes from the Greek for rose-colored, which is the color the mineral imparts to the blowpipe flame (Rose, 1834).

Rhodizite here forms a yellow dodecahedral crystal, 5 mm across, embedded in a matrix of albite and pink tourmaline. A vintage Burminco label accompanies the specimen. From the Charles Trantham (1936-2020) estate.
