Malachite and azurite are both carbonates of copper. And they both have mineral names based on their color. The mineral name malachite comes from the Greek word malache for mallows. While known since antiquity, it was Beudant (1832) who first applied the mineral name azurite denoting its blue color. Part of the Charles Trantham (1936-2020) estate.
