Quartz on Calcite - Sold

Quarts is simply silicon dioxide, but structurally an interconnected silicate. Calcite is simple calcium carbonate. These are among the most common of minerals, both names making short lists for teaching mineralogy and also for beginner collectible minerals.

Quartz is relatively rare in the Ojuela mine. The mineral here forms a druse covering calcite rhombohedra to 0.9 cm. While rather ordinary for these minerals on a global scale, this piece is important to those interested in the mineral diversity of Ojuela. Unique and attractive.
