Pyrite on Calcite - Sold

Taxco is a long time silver producing area. The silver veins carry various gangue and sulfide minerals, including calcite and pyrite. This is a crystal cluster of scalenohedral calcite, coated with epitaxial tan dolomite. Later iridescent pyrite and even later calcite crystals decorate the piece. There are two generations of calcite present. This piece comes out of the collection of Gene Wright (1931-2008), a Tucson based collector specializing in calcite, and minerals from Arizona and Mexico. Choice.
