Vanadinite is a lead vanadate chloride, and a member of the apatite supergroup (Pasero et al., 2010). German mineralogist and poet Franz von Kobell (1803-1882) dubbed this species Vanadinit in his 1838 Grundzüge der Mineralogie. Now anglicized to vanadinite, the mineral name recognizes its essential vanadium content.
This is a doubly terminated single crystal, somewhat cavernous in development. Choice. Formerly in the Roy Foerster collection.
