Vuagnatite - Sold

Vuagnatite is a calcium aluminum silicate hydroxide. It has the same crystal structure as conichalcite (McNear et al., 1976). The mineral name honors Marc Vuagnat (1922- 2015), professor at the University of Geneva and specialist in ophiolites (Sarp et al., 1976). Shortly after its original description, Pabst et al. (1977) described vuagnatite from California.

This California locality is the most prolific source of vuagnatite for the mineral collectors. The matrix is an altered ophiolite, with rather large vuagnatite crystals to 2.5 mm. Large piece for the locality. This specimen was part of the Charles Trantham (1936-2020) estate.
