Metavariscite is an aluminum phosphate hydrate, and a monoclinic polymorph of variscite. Larsen & Schaller (1923) named the species for its relationship with variscite.
A round vesicle in altered volcanic rock hosts pale green crystals of metavariscite to 0.5 mm. This specimen was part of the Charles Trantham (1936-2020) estate and a label from the Clyde Hardin collection accompanies this specimen.
