- 5.0 by 4.6 by 2.4 cm – Miniature specimen (fits into a 5 cm cube)
Senegalite is a rare aluminum phosphate mineral. Johan (1976) first described the species, naming it after its country of origin. Keegan et al. (1979) solved the senegalite crystal structure.
On this specimen, senegalite forms pale green blades to 1.5 mm. The senegalite crystals form a continuous crust, overgrowing blue-green turquoise, lining a vug iron oxide "gossan" matrix. This specimen was part of the Charles Trantham (1936-2020) estate. A vintage Al McGuinness (1926-1990) label accompanies this specimen. Rare.
