Perovskite - Sold

Perovskite is a calcium titanium oxide. The mineral name honors Count Lev Perovskii (1792-1856), Russian mineralogist of St. Petersburg. Perovskite has orthorhombic symmetry, but nearly cubic unit cell dimensions, and the mineral readily forms twins.

This specimen of meta-basalt hosts pseudocubic twins of perovskite to 5 mm. A painted label on the specimen indicates that is was part of the Mike Groben collection, March 1969.
