Home > American Minerals III – May 26 > MS1582 Cerussite

Cerussite is simple lead carbonate. The mineral has orthorhombic symmetry, and often twins to form pseudohexagonal aggregates. The name cerussite derives from the Latin cerussa, an ancient name for the compound. Cerussite is rather widespread globally, but fine specimens are rather limited in occurrence. A premier American locality for cerussite is the Mammoth-St. Anthony mine north of Tucson, Arizona.

Cerussite here forms bladed crystals to 2 cm, twinned at 120°. In very good condition for one of these, with most terminations present. Lustrous.
