Home > Type Localities – March 17 > MS1547 Strontiojoaquinite

Strontiojoaquinite is a complex silicate mineral containing sodium, titanium, strontium, titanium, and barium (Wise, 1982). Its name denotes its strontium content and relationship to joaquinite-(Ce); there is an entire group of joaquinite minerals (Matsubara et al., 2001).

This specimen hosts three separate strontiojoaquinite crystals on a blueschist matrix. The specimen comes mounted in a Perky thumbnail box; though unmarked, the box label is that of Mineralogical Research Company. Sharon and Gene Cisneros, owners of Mineralogical Research, were claim holders of Mina Numero Uno, and very likely collected this particular sample in the field.
