Barytocalcite - Sold

Barytocalcite is a barium calcium carbonate. Brooke (1824) named the mineral for its composition. Since the original description does not specify a single locality, Young (1985) argues that the Blagill mine is original occurrence.

Barytocalcite here forms bladed crystals to 1.7 cm. The mineral is altered on its surface to fine grained cream baryte, almost like frosting on a cookie. A David New label accompanies this specimen. Such specimens are not readily available on the collector market.
